Founded in 1994, Call2Recycle collect and recycle handheld rechargeable batteries and mobile phones in the US. They have also started collecting primary batteries in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Manitoba and Quebec. Collection boxes are located in retail stores, public facilities and businesses. Individual rechargeable batteries must be placed in a plastic bag and sealed. Call2Recycle is funded by product manufacturers (called licensees or ‘industry stewards’), who place the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) recycling seal on their rechargeable products and batteries, informing users that they are recyclable. There are approximately 30,000 drop-off locations in North America.
